The Truck

So with remodeling comes trash. All the stuff we ripped out of the bathroom in the last couple months has been living in our garage. Needless to say, it's been a wreck. Not only was there all the old fixtures from the bathroom, but also a ton of cardboard from the myriad of furniture we've bought for the house. Some of it was already in the truck, so that's what I took care of today. For those of you who don't know, I'm the proud owner of a 1955 International R-112. It's been my dad's for the last 20+ years, and I became the owner about a year ago. I have a dream of someday restoring it to it's former glory, but for now, it's a work truck. It was a lot of fun to drive 82nd this afternoon and watch people gawk. I think most people are familiar with Ford and Chevy trucks of this era, but you don't see many Internationals anymore.

Last taste of summer

and it sure does taste sweet! I love watermelon. Sometimes in the middle of the winter I'll get these crazy cravings for watermelon. I don't know if it's the taste or if it's just the desire for the rain to finally stop and have summer here. Either way, there's nothing that feels like summer more than having watermelon juice all over your face and running down your arms. Once this melon is gone I'll have to withstand the cravings and look forward to next year.
So, I'm really disappointed. Last night when we were driving home from my parent's, there was an amazing moon. It was low in the sky, and it was big, and it was a beautiful red color. It looked just like a harvest moon. I was excited because I figured I'd be able to take a picture of it tonight (the moon doesn't change that fast!). But here I am waiting and waiting, and there is no sign of it tonight. Bummer. I give up. I guess I should have snapped a picture while I had my chance last night.

I can has hand now? Plz?

Tonight Heidi and I went out to Heidi's parents to surprise Becky who flew in from Las Vegas. She was thoroughly surprised, scared a bit even, but at least happy to see us. While we were waiting for her to arrive at the house I was playing with Taz, Tricia's new kitten. He's a pretty fun little kitten and actually reminds me a lot of Jupiter.

For those of you wondering about the title of the post, it comes from my favorite internet meme that's going on right now, lolcats. I'm not sure where it really started, probably on some huge message board somewhere. Anyway, they are pictures, typically of cats, that have cute and or funny captions on them. It's gone so far as to have an article about the phenomenon in the Wall Street Journal. The article does a pretty good job of describing what they are about and what makes them funny. Another site you should check out if you're interested is icanhascheezburger.com. They've done a great job of organizing and tagging the images so they are very searchable for many different topics.

J-E-L-L-O

I was completely at a loss about what to take a picture of today. So, when Gabe and I went to Safeway to get some much needed groceries this evening I decided I should bring the camera along as well. As we were walking down the aisles, deciding what we needed, this section of Jello caught my attention. I think it was all the red sale tags all over the place. I guess that's probably why they put them up...right? It didn't do much good in this case. We didn't buy any Jello tonight. But I have fallen prey to the "Oh look _____________ is on sale...I guess I need it" mentality. I know I'm not the only one!

99% Complete

Alright, here is the shower as it stands right now. I have a little bit of caulking to do and I need some longer screws to put the trim ring around the water control knob and the shower will be complete, well, we still need to seal the grout, but that has to wait another day. Heidi did a masterful job cleaning the tub up and now the shower is ready for it's first use. I have to say that the project was worth it, it looks great and I look forward to showering in it tomorrow. I can't say I want to do any more tiling for a while though.

I know this picture isn't the best shot I've taken recently, but I wanted to show the shower in it's nearly complete state. Hopefully my next post will return to some more "photography" type pictures and not snapshots from around the house.

Oh, and the tiles at the top aren't blue, they're actually clear glass that looks really blue in the picture.

Oh...my forgotten "friend"

I guess I'll have to set this thing before I get into bed tonight. I'm having some trouble accepting the fact that I have to get up and go to work in the morning. Summer is officially over.
Seriously, I'm a little bit frustrated because I have to spend the first 3 days of the week sitting in meetings. There is no time to get into my room and get it ready for my kids until Thursday, that is unless I want to say late. So, the year begins. Too many things to do and never enough time to do it in.
I better get myself to bed since I'm not use to getting up at 7 anymore. Gabe will have to give you all an update on our shower (which is not yet functional) tomorrow. It looks amazing! We're both so proud of our hard work. Thankfully Bryan let us come and get showers at his place. 3 days without a shower and I was starting to feel like Pigpen. Everyone could smell the stench that followed me like a cloud.

One. Freaking. Tile.

We ended up being one tile short of finishing tonight. Unfortunately it's my fault since I broke one tile while cutting it, and it was a bullnose tile, the kind we were short. It's not really too big of a deal, we'll go to Home Depot first thing tomorrow and grab a tile and put it on. We can grout in the afternoon and check another project off the list. Heidi and I worked pretty efficiently together on the tiling today, it worked out nicely. When I needed to cut tiles, Heidi would take over and tile while I was outside. We probably could have finished a little earlier if we had pushed a little harder, but I feel like it wouldn't have looked as good. I'm excited to get this project done with, I hope I never have to tile again.

Here we go again!

The project has been started!
So far...no surprises. Let's just hope it stays that way.
I know this picture stinks. Gabe's totally not in focus but the demolished shower/tub is. Oh, well. Maybe it's better that way any way. Now you can see what it is Gabe's been doing all afternoon and evening. I took this picture after he finished pulling out all the yucky laminate walls of the shower. He's already got the cement backerboard on and is working on the mortar right now. That's all we've got planned for the project today. Tomorrow morning we'll go get the tile saw and go to town.
I'm going to get a peach crisp in the oven...Gabe's going to need a treat after all his hard work today!

Millions of Peaches

Ok, maybe it's not millions of peaches, but it's a lot. Heidi and Danelle picked 44 pounds of peaches today out at Sauvie Island. They then spent the rest of the afternoon canning, they only made it about halfway through the fruit they picked, so they'll be back at it in the morning. This post is so late because we were out wishing Josh well. He's decided to take another job opportunity he was offered recently and today was his last day. It will be a busy time for me until we hire someone new and get them up to speed. I hope Josh does well at his new job and I wish him all the best.

You say tomato, I say tomahto

Lets call the whole thing off...

Not much going on around here today. I should get myself to the grocery store but I hate grocery shopping. Therefore, I can't get myself to go! We're in desperate need of some fresh food. Yes, we have patty pan squash, zucchini, artichokes, tomato, and onion in the garden...but to be honest, I'm getting rather sick of all of those things. I'm feeling very uninspired by them right now, or maybe I'm just feeling uninspired in general.

As you all know, Gabe and I gave our bathroom a face lift in June. Well, we didn't quite finish that project. The bathroom is really only half done because we never did the shower. So, this weekend guess what we'll be doing? I figure, we have to get it done before I go back to school or it won't get done until next summer. The 10 months I'm in school are just too crazy and I need my home to be a retreat...not under construction. I'm not sure it's been a very great idea for us to have even waited this long. I hate to admit it but, I haven't cleaned the shower all summer. I just kept telling myself I didn't have to because we were going to be taking it all apart. At this point we either need to re-do the shower or I have to clean it. It's so disgusting it makes me ill. So, we're going to finally conquer it this weekend. That means we'll be off the Home Depot (AKA: Heidi's Hell. I swear, I'd rather shoot myself in the head then go there.) this evening to get the big things we still need.

Finally

I know it doesn't look like much from this picture, but it's a big step in the right direction. As some of you know, late last year we found out we were going to have to replace the sewer at our house. There's a long version of the story I won't get into, but it basically boils down to the fact that the type of sewer we have is illegal now, and must be replaced. The fact that we have to replace it is based on discovery, once the illegal setup is found, it has to be fixed. The condition was discovered by our neighbor when they bought their house. They have a somewhat blocked/broken sewer line they wanted to fix, but couldn't because they had to bring their sewer connection up to code. They couldn't do that without us replacing our sewer as well since fixing their connection would effectively cut off our house and our neighbor on the other side. This is because we're all on a party line, which is the worst kind of party I've ever been involved with. Finally we are getting the repair made after months of waiting on a neighbor to get the money together to do it. The company doing the repairs has been out a couple times this week already surveying the property, so hopefully in the next couple weeks we'll have a brand new sewer.

What a mess!

The girls came over this evening to do one of my favorite things...scrapbook. Sarah's finally picked up the "habit" so now we can all enjoy an evening of scrapbooking. (I know that really isn't a verb...but maybe it should be.) Sarah was working on some pictures from her trip to France (last fall), Jen is still working on her wedding (she got married just over 1 year ago), and Alexis was working on our trip to the beach for Memorial Day in '05. Guess what I was working on. Our trip to Hawaii. I can't help it! I don't waste any time. I like to stay up to date. Jen and Alexis often get on my case because they say I'm going to run out of things to scrapbook. But it just could never happen. As long as I'm taking pictures (which is all the time) I'll have scrapbooks to be made. Since it's raining this week, I might have to spend my last week of summer working away on our Hawaii trip.

Cat+Box=Fun

As most people know, cats like to explore. They especially enjoy checking out bags and boxes that might be around the house. Well, our cat is no different. On Thursday I got our new computer from Dell. It was definitely time for the old one to go away. The speed increase is phenomenal, and somehow, Heidi "talked" me into getting a 24" widescreen monitor. I can't believe how awesome it is to edit pictures on a monitor this big. While I was setting the new machine up, Jupiter thought it would be a good time to check out the new boxes. He has a real affinity for styrofoam, so I made sure to close up the box with the monitor packing material. The tower came packed in a different foam he didn't seem to care too much about, so I let him play. He got himself trapped in the box pretty good, the flaps of the box were open enough he could see out. He couldn't figure out why they would close up everytime he tried to get out though. After taking some pictures, I rescued him.

Typical Oregon Coast

Thursday and Friday the weather at the coast was beautiful. Sunny, warm (70+ degrees), and most importantly...dry.
Well, on Saturday that all began to change.

Luckily, Gabe and I went for a walk down to the beach after breakfast. It was windy and cold, but still dry. That's the Oregon Coast we're all so "fond" of. I say we were lucky because almost as soon as we finished eating our lunch/dinner around 3, the rain started and it just wouldn't stop. There was no more enjoying the beach after that. Instead, we were all holed up under the canopy playing games. Let me tell you, 6 people under a 10x10 canopy for hours becomes a tight squeeze!
I am happy to report that thanks to the superior design of Kelty equipment, Gabe and I were dry as a bone in our tent all night. Sadly, my mom, dad, Tricia and Jory were not so lucky. Tricia was forced to wring the water out of her pillow in the morning. That stinks!

Sunset at Nehalem

Steve and I finally made it to the campground around 4 on Friday afternoon. I was supposed to be at Heidi's parents house around 1, but didn't end up getting there till closer to 2. I left work late due to a crazy trip to Ikea for work stuff and got stuck in some crappy traffic heading out the the West side of town. After my adventures the night before, I was ready for a nap, I woke up just in time to help set up for dinner. After dinner I caught this sunset. I don't think these were the clouds that sprinkled on us sporadically through the night, but they should have been considered a warning of what we were to face over the weekend.

The girls at the beach

My mom, Tricia and I took off Thursday for the coast. My mom planned a family camping trip to Nehalem Bay State Park for the weekend and the first night (Thursday) was just for us girls.
The boys (my dad, Gabe and Tricia's new boyfriend) were going to be joining us on Friday.
As you can see, after dinner we took a walk down the beach and the weather was beautiful. The best part of the day had to be my mom playing her guitar and singing as we sat around the fire. She sang all the songs she use to sing to us when we were kids.

BTW: I left Gabe the task of taking a picture and blogging on Thursday but he decided a night of trivia, drinking beer and playing video games was more important!

The end is unfortunately in sight. The end of my summer is almost here. I had to go to school today for a meeting and now reality is starting to set in. After my meeting, I got the keys to my room because I wanted to pick somethings up for another meeting I have next week. Boy was that a mistake. My classroom is a disaster! And I didn't leave it that way. I'm assuming that when my room was cleaned this summer they took all the furniture out and didn't bother to put anything back in neatly. It's basically strewn all over the room, almost nothing is where it's suppose to be. I've never come back to a such a disaster. I wish I wouldn't have gone in because I was fighting a headache this morning and seeing that mess sure didn't help. Now I can't get rid of the throbbing in my head.

The Big 5-0!

Today we celebrated my mom's 50th birthday. Growing up, on our birthday, we always got to request what we wanted my mom to make for dinner. I think my request was usually lasagna, my mom makes an amazing lasagna. Well, my mom requested I make our famous macaroni and cheese. (Which is really Martha's, and it's unbelievably delicious.) So we had dinner with my parents and Tricia. Then did cake and presents. I found a gift for my mom that I thought was really cute. It's a CD of the billboard top 10 in 1957 (the year she was born). We had fun listening to it while we ate dinner, but since it's a Tuesday night we didn't get too carried away. Maybe we'll have to celebrate some more when we're camping at the coast this weekend

Disco Tennis

That is Mike doing his best impression of the Village People, I think. He might also just be playing tennis, but with that fine pose, it's hard to tell. In truth, we were playing tennis this evening, albeit poorly. We picked our game up once Dave showed up though. Halfway through our time at the courts a family of 6 kids and a dad showed up and played on the other court. It was really funny to watch the guy try to manage the kids that were between 4 and 10. Dad's job was to run around and shag balls apparently. Kids were running around screaming, crying and nearly hitting each other with the racquets. It was fun to watch. I really wanted to take a picture of the youngest one who couldn't stand the fact that the other kids got to play with her tennis ball. Unfortunately we were too deep in our game to break the camera out again.

Detour

We were forced to make a detour on our way home from Eugene today. Just north of Salem, we hit a terrible traffic jam. Apparently in Woodburn there was a huge car wreck and they had to close I-5 north. So we got off the freeway as soon as we could, only to get into a traffic jam with everyone else leaving the freeway. Let's just say that a trip that usually takes 90 minutes, took us 3 hours. Boy did we get hungry and short tempered.

In order to keep myself occupied, and because I knew I had to post a picture today, I started just taking pictures out the window. Here's a sign I saw in Brooks that I thought was funny. Either they weren't sure how to spell yellow or they didn't have enough letters. Who knows?

Crawdaddy Kisses

Since Gabe was very young, he and his dad have been in nearly every creek between Eugene and the coast hunting crawdads. The first summer Gabe and I were dating, I had my first experience catching, cleaning and eating these crustaceans. This weekend was my third time in the creek and let me tell you...it's not getting any easier. The whole process begins by "blazing" a trail down to the creek with 3 machetes. Apparently, if it's easy to get down to the creek it's not a good spot.

These little guys aren't easy to catch. First of all, they make their home in cold creeks with fairly swift moving water and slippery rocks. I have several bruises on my lower extremities from slipping over these rocks in the attempt to net our dinner. Second, when you think you're about to get them in your net they surprise you shooting backward just out of net reach. And finally as you follow them with your net, thrashing around in the creek and slipping over rocks, they quickly dart to safety under the rock that you just fell over.

Thankfully there were 7 of us working at catching these elusive creatures (Gabe, Tom, Joanne, Gabe's aunt, 2 cousins, and me). We managed to catch over 400. Although, I think I only contributed about 40 to that total. Unfortunately, the work wasn't over. After splashing around in the creek, we had to bring our bounty back home to be cooked and cleaned. Our reward was an amazing crawdad fettuccine alfredo, a Tom West specialty. Delicious!

Friday Cruise

This weekend Heidi and I were down in Eugene to visit with my dad and his wife Joanne. The real reason for the visit was to go crawdadding on Saturday and cook up a feast in the evening. I'll let Heidi talk about the crawdadding so I don't spoil her post. Friday we had an awesome meal at Air Thai in Harrisburg. After dinner we went for a sunset cruise in my dad's newest project car. It's a 1951 Packard. He's had it a few years now, and is finally in good running shape. It's all original, and must have lived almost it's entire life in a barn. The paint is a bit oxidized, but other than that, it's in great shape. Even the mohair interior looks good. It was a nice cruise out through the farmland near Harrisburg, watching the sun go down and deer eat their evening meal.

Who are you?

And what have you done with my Heidi? I think this is the shortest I've ever seen Heidi's hair, and I think it looks great. She was pretty worried that I may not like it, but I do. I had forgotten that she was getting her hair cut today, but as soon as I walked in the door I could see it. It wasn't one of those haircuts that you can barely tell what changed, you know, the ones wives complain about their husbands not noticing. I don't want it to sound like I haven't liked Heidi's previous haircuts, but it's fun to be surprised with something new!

We have berries!

Finally! I chopped back our raspberry bushes this fall to stumps, and at the time didn't think anything of it. Berries grow so crazy I didn't think cutting them so drastically would make any difference. When July came, and it didn't look like we'd have any berries, I was really disappointed. I figured my drastic pruning was to blame and I had resigned myself with the fact that we wouldn't have any raspberries in our yard this year to snack on. I figured there was always next year.
Well, you can imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when Gabe told me there were a few blossoms on the bushes. And my utter amazement when I spotted some berries ripe for the picking while I was outside pulling weeds today! I'm thrilled that our raspberries are finally here. Better late than never!

His Nemesis

Jupiter spent part of the evening confronting his nemesis. The spray bottle. We're still trying to break him of scratching of certain things and of climbing up behind the television. He's gotten better about scratching, but trying to hang out behind the TV seems to be his new favorite way to bug us. He actually got locked in the back room for it for a while tonight. When he came out he tried to bite and claw the spray bottle before he settled down next to it. I think he must have decided it was dead or something.

We finally had girl's night tonight. I think it's been about a month since we've had a formal girl's night. We've hung out, and seen each other, but haven't been meeting on our regular Monday night time slot. Summer just gets so crazy busy! So, we hung out at Alexis' place and talked about everything we've been doing in the last month. Then, about the time we usually take off for the evening, we got a game of Ticket To Ride: Europe going. I was the huge looser. I guess I haven't quite found a strategy for that game yet. I need more practice.

The Beals House Girls

This evening our friends Kirsten and Matt tied the knot at the Overlook House in North Portland. It's a great house and grounds with a nice view of the river. Kirsten and Heidi have been friends since their freshman year of college at George Fox. All these girls (Mindy, Heidi, Kirsten and Carley) plus 3 more lived together for a year as upperclassmen. The ceremony was nice, the vows they wrote for each other were very sweet. I'm pretty sure their ceremony was longer than ours, if you can believe it! (lol). We wish them all the best.

He Can Read!!!

When we were sitting in the airport ready to come home, guess what Gabe wanted to buy? More magazines to read. He brought 3, but finished them all and wanted something to read while we waited. I had convinced him to bring a book I finished earlier in the summer because I thought he'd really like it. But here it was the end of our trip, and he hadn't even touched it. I convinced him to give it a try. And guess what? He's actually reading it and has had trouble putting it down. Good job Gabe! Way to give books a chance!
In other news, we ventured to the new, one and only, Portland IKEA this evening. We're looking at refurnishing our office and finding some ways to solve our storage issues in our mudroom. We were mostly there just to check out what they have. We found a few promising options. It's nice to have an IKEA within 10 minutes rather than 3 hours. We couldn't leave empty handed of course. So we got these. They go on these for spice storage in the kitchen.

How many razors do you need...

on one razor. Apparently Gillette thinks you need 5. Yes, 5. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Also included in this marvel is ONE EXTRA BLADE that's the, "Precision Trimmer Blade." I know this Fusion razor has been out for a while, but I received a sample in the mail today and am just amazed at this feat of engineering. Or marketing, not sure which. I think I may try the thing, probably even use it until the blade, excuse me, blades wear out. I'll let you know if my shaving accuracy and efficiency increased 5 fold because of it.

Kauai: The Last Day in Paradise

We spent our last day exploring parts of the island we hadn't had a chance to see yet. That is, after we spent the morning swimming and soaking up sun by the pool. First, we headed up north to Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. It is the northernmost point of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands. The views of the lighthouse were stunning. We were hoping to see lots of wildlife. We saw lots of nesting birds and even a few babies. But we didn't spot the spinner dolphins or sea turtles that are known to be in this area during the summer. Next, we tried some fresh guava juice. Before dinner and our plane departed, we checked out Wailua Falls. Not very many of the waterfalls on Kauai are easy to get to. Most are in the unexplored jungle. This is one you can drive to and it is best known for its appearance in the opening credits of the Fantasy Island TV series.
Neither of us were very excited about the idea of heading home. But, it had to be done.

Kauai: Our Private Beach

We were on the hunt for a good place to snorkel! Based on the suggestion of one of the billions of books Heidi read, Moloa'a Beach was our destination. It's a pretty remote beach on the northeast part of the island and is protected from the open ocean. The pilot for the classic TV series Gilligan's Island was filmed here. When we arrived we were the only people on the beach, though there were a couple beach dogs to greet us. The snorkeling was good, with more coral than we had seen so far.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing at the beach or poolside at our hotel. We also made good use of the BBQ's by the pool. After Jen and Craig left, Heidi and I had a chance to relax by the ocean at our hotel, for some reason, we hadn't made use of that beach yet. We relaxed, drank Mai Tai's and watched the sunset. As a nightcap, we swam some more and had a daiquiri.

Kauai: Have another Mai Tai

Monday morning we were off to explore the South shore beaches and do some serious snorkeling. Unfortunately, we had some trouble finding a good spot, nothing lived up to the high standard at Tunnels Beach. We tried a spot Dave recommended with no luck. It looked like it could be good at another time of year. Summer on the South shore is better for surfing...the waves were insane. Jen and I both had trouble getting the sand off our butts. After a failed attempt to snorkel and swim, I just laid on the beach and read Harry Potter.
Since this is my first trip to Hawaii, I really wanted to go to a luau. We heard from several sources that the best luau on the island was at Smith's Tropical Paradise. We took a tour of their 30 acre garden lead by a guide who we think was hitting the Mai Tai's early. He couldn't seem to remember his left from his right. Before dinner we watched the imu ceremony (see picture) and we hit the open bar hard. For some reason the fuddy-duddy's sitting next to us found our Mai Tai consumption repulsive. Dinner was wonderful. Gabe loved the poi. After a "few" Mai Tai's he was eating it with a spoon, no pork needed. After dinner we made our way to watch the hula show. It was a fun night.

Kauai: Zip and Snorkel

One of the things I was looking forward to most on our trip was the Zipline Adventure. But when it came time to do it, I got a little bit nervous.
Once the "bunny" line was over, I was ready for more! The longest of the 7 zip lines was 742 feet. It was awesome. Jen and I decided we need to buy some land up on Mt. Hood and create our own course. Anyone want to front us the cash?

After our zipline adventure we went up the north shore looking for a place to snorkel. Our helicopter pilot said Tunnels Beach was the best place to snorkel so we decided to head up there. We weren't disappointed! Along with all the fish, we also saw 2 green sea turtles. So cool! They were just munching on some sea grass. Didn't mind us watching them one bit! I think seeing them really was my favorite part of our trip. Who knows if I'll ever get to see that again.


After all our snorkeling and sun bathing we were parched. So, we stopped in Hanalei for our first shave ice experience. Yummy!!! Shave Ice makes a perfect after snorkeling treat.

Kauai: View from Above

Saturday started out pretty early. We were up before the sun had even come up, the three hour time change going west really messed up our internal clocks. Jen, Craig, Heidi and I set out to find the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific", Waimea Canyon. It really did remind me of the Grand Canyon, just smaller, and quite a bit greener. There was still that amazing red color and steep ravines. Once at the top Heidi and I took a short hike along the Pihea Trail out to get a better view of the Kalalau Valley. Heidi got a bit nervous after seeing the trail which looked like a riverbed, so we didn't make it all the way out to the next lookout, but the view was spectacular.






After lunch, it was time for the helicopter tour. This was probably the best part of the vacation for both Heidi and I. It was amazing to see the island from the air. The key moment was cruising out of a valley, over a knife-edge ridge and seeing the Na Pali coast. A breathtaking moment. Towards the end of the flight we flew into Waialeale Crater. The top of the crater is considered to be the wettest spot on earth, averaging 450 inches of rain a year.

Kauai: The Arrival

Our trip half way across the Pacific went very smoothly. We were pleasantly surprised by our room. We certainly didn't book a room here at the Resortquest Islander on the Beach because it's a 5 star resort. But, it was comfortable, we had a small view of the ocean, the garden is beautiful, and the pool was nice.

Once we got settled, we realized we were starving. It was about 8 o'clock Hawaii time, 11 our time and since airlines don't serve food anymore, we hadn't eaten since our lunch at the airport. Jen and Craig were ready for some food as well, so we set out on a search of our first meal in Kauai. We found a place across the highway from our hotel, Cafe Coco. They had really good ahi tuna sandwiches. At least, I thought they were really good. Maybe it was just because I hadn't eaten in 10 hours.
After dinner we got some drinks and went down to the beach. Jen and I enjoyed the sound of the waves while Gabe and Craig were set on scaring the hermit crabs.
