Jupiter, our cat, is an indoor only cat. This means the bathroom he uses is a box filled with cat litter in the back room. Most common cat litter, any kind that forms clumps, is made from sodium bentonite, basically clay. This clay is mined through strip mining, which can lead to watershed pollution among many other environmental problems. Also, most cat litter can be very dusty and can lead to respiratory problems for the cat. To resolve some of these issues in our house we are going to try Feline Pine, a natural cat litter made from dried pine. There are a few other products on the market that don't use clay either, so if Jupiter decides he doesn't like this stuff, we have a few other options. Hopefully he takes to it since I like the idea of smelling pine more than his current litter box.
